The Firsts of 2025 Tag

December is a month of book tags, mainly the "year-end stat questions" type, which I really enjoy doing. To start off, I'll be doing the "Firsts of 2025" tag, which I stole from Liliana (this is our routine lol), and you can read all about how her year went here.

 First Book Read This Year

The last few years, I always started January with a light romantasy because that's my guilty pleasure genre - it's so easy to read but so much fun. Therefore, the first book I read was Hollow Court which was pretty amazing.

First 5-star Rating

It's a shame I disliked the last book in this series because A Curse so Dark and Lonely was brilliant. It was this unique type of Beauty and the Beast retelling that had all the best bits of the OG with some twists and turns.

First Book Reviewed

Well, I try to review every book I read so this isn't really surprising ðŸ˜…

First 2025 Release

I was so so excited for this one and I'm sad to say it disappointed me. It's the final book in the None Shall Sleep series and I had such high hopes but that ending felt weird and unsatisfactory.

First Book That Slayed Me – Dead!

Look, this may be a rom-com slash spy slash action adventure type of book but I. WAS. SLAYED. I haven't read anything by Ally Carter for ages and I remember being amazed by her OG teen spy series so I had high hopes that this would be the same thing but for adults. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. It made me laugh, it made me swoon, it made me feel like a kid again and dream about becoming a spy ðŸ˜‚

First Book Hangover

I still haven't recovered after finishing this series. If I had to pick just one book from this year that I'll cherish forever, it'd be this one. From start to finish, the whole series is just a bunch of teens saving the universe while maintaining healthy relationships and being there for each other ♥

First Reading Slump and Book That Pulled Me Out

According to my GR, there's a 10-day gap in my reading in April after which I read this book. I don't remember all of my reading slumps because there were several this year ðŸ˜‚😂 Since stats don't lie, I'm gonna say Stars and Smoke pulled me out of my first slump. Loved the book, loved the sequel.

First DNF

Since I don't usually track all of my DNFs, I had to take a guess on which one was my first ðŸ˜… I remember absolutely nothing about this book which doesn't surprise me. I know I was bored out of my mind and gave up after reading just a few chapters.

First Book By an Author I’ve Read Before

I've read lots of romantasy books by this author duo and they never miss! I hope they write a new one soon because they are so so good.

First Book By a Debut Author

My short-lived healing fiction era ended after reading The Healing Season of Pottery because it was so boring y'all. No notes.

First Book By a New-To-Me Author

Apparently, this author has a ton of books but since I hated Of Beast and Beauty, I'll not be checking a single one ðŸ˜‚

First Book That I Wish I Could Get Back the Time I Spent Reading It

I gave this book 2 stars, but I could've gone lower. I hated the fanfiction writing style (which is an insult to proper fanfiction because damn those can be good) where the MC is this perfect girl who has to go through Every Trauma Ever™ and has a red flag type of guy who's treating her like garbage until he falls in love. Ugh.

First Novella

This series was the shortest wild ride ever ðŸ˜‚ The author manages to create such crazy plot lines in such a short page number, you gotta appreciate it.

First Graphic Novel, Comic, or Manga

My first and only manga this year has been a huge win. Honestly, I'm shocked that I still haven't read a single sequel of Spy x Family. I think I've been saving it up for the worst reading slumps but in the end I managed to get out of one without it. Well, I guess I'll continue reading this next year ðŸ˜‚

First Re-Read

Since the TV adaptation came out this year, I wanted to reread the book to see all the differences. It was fun being in this universe again and I loved both the reread and the show ðŸ˜„

If you do the tag as well, feel free to drop the link in the comments. I'd love to read your answers!

  1. I love these end of the year tags and posts! I think I will wait a bit before posting mine.
Were you surprised by any of your answers?
I had Stars and Smoke in my yearly TBR and I am so sad I could not get to it, but seeing it here made me very happy. The total opposite of Of Beast and Beauty, since I have the ebook, but now I am in no rush to get to it.
I am intrigued by A Curse so Dark and Lonely and Blonde Identity.
