Two Romances and An Action-filled Dystopia!

It's been ages since I've done a review post and I don't regret it one bit ðŸ˜‚

Writing reviews is something that quickly turns into a chore for me if I don't have a specific opinion to share. That's why I resorted to writing 3-4 sentence reviews on GR that are basically just vibes and not proper arguments. AND I LOVED IT. It took away the feeling of "I have to write an essay on this topic and say something original", which would make me procrastinate everything. In turn, this made me more motivated to occasionally write longer reviews when I had the time. Well, I finally have a couple of "longer" reviews to share with you guys 😂

The Ending is the Best Part by Lamia Zain  ★★

Reading this felt like I was back in the early 2010s, reading some crazy y/n stuff

This girl has everything: a messy bun, extreme clumsiness that's mentioned every 4.532 seconds, she's nerdy and loves rom-coms, despite being so young she's excellent at her job and given an opportunity not even the senior writers got, she's got 2 bffs that constantly push her to be with the "bad boy" and otherwise don't have a meaningful presence in the story, even her boss is shipping them together...

Her parents are these big bad villains who don't support her career but by the end of the book, without any concrete interactions (or conversations), they simply change their minds and become these super fans of her work.

Despite them supposedly working together, basically all of Yara's ideas are approved and pushed on, while anything Xander wanted is minimised. He's switching between hot and cold faster than I wrote this rant review, which is quite fast, mind you. Their love story is not even a proper love story, just a bunch of misunderstandings and them both acting like kids. I'm giving it 2 stars solely for that Doctor Who reference.

See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon ★★★★

Expected a funny rom-com, got some heavy topics and characters with impeccable taste in dry humor!

First of all, you can't help but love these two dorks. Barrett went through some tough stuff in high school but she still has an optimistic look on her college life. While she's a bit rough on the edges (and has every right to do so my poor baby), she still cares a lot about people around her and tries her best.

Miles is this precious lil cinnamon bun that seems stand-offish, but he's actually really sweet and a great friend. I loved the way he slowly let Barrett in and let himself relax a bit.

There's a lot you'll find out about these two throughout the book - family problems, expectations, hopes and dreams. They are so human it's impossible not to root for them and want them to overcome all the crap the universe throws at them.

The time travel part was surprisingly well done! Honestly, I didn't expect this to have such a meaningful part of the story - I truly thought it's just gonna be a background kinda thing, like there's a time loop, whatever, now kiss. Instead, these characters constantly talked about the loop and tried every scientific (and less scientific) method to try and get out of it.

They researched, experimented, talked to other scientists, etc. Also, the loop itself was explained in a fun way. So yeah, both the time travel and the romance part were really good!

The Q by Amy Tintera ★★★★

If you're looking for an action movie in book form, look no further. From start to finish, this book is filled with fight scenes, wild car chases, shootouts etc. While it may not be that "deep" it's exactly what it promises to be - an exciting "on the run" type of story that gives you badass characters and a wild plot.

Despite this being a fast-paced standalone, there's still some major character development, and there are even multiple side characters that I absolutely loved. Despite them having less "page-time," they were so fleshed out, and I genuinely wanted to learn more about them.

When it comes to the main characters, they are polar opposites in the best way. He's a slightly pampered politician's son who can charm anyone, and she's this badass fighter, daughter of an ex-convict slash gang leader. They are both very smart people and care a lot about others. Basically, despite being different when it comes to their upbringing, they had very similar views on how things should be done.

The ending surprised me a lil bit, and I'm happy with how it turned out. There were 3 possible outcomes, and I'm glad the author chose this one - it's not an over-the-top HEA, but it's also not depressing. 😂
