My Year In Books 2025

It's time to look back on the previous year and see what kind of bookish shenanigans I've been up to! I'll be using stats from myyearinbooks.com and Goodreads.

Let's start with some general stats from Goodreads:

My goal was originally 60 books but then I upped it to 70 so I'm extremelly happy I did it! Of course, there were a few novellas here and there, but all in all, I feel I've done a good job this year.

The shortest book is a novella from the Space Janitor series and the longest is the final book of The Jasad Heir duology - both of which I read in the last 2 months of 2025 😂 No one is surprised by my average book length because that is my preferred number of pages. I generally stay away from 450+ books unless they captivate me so much or if they're sequels to books I've already loved.

I reread Powerless this year so I can finish the rest of the series and it's been hyped on BookTok a lot so I'm not that shocked it's my most-popular book. My average rating is quite good actually! I used to be far more critical, but nowadays I just DNF a book sooner and not waste my time too much (and this way I also don't have that many 1 or 2-star reads).

Moving on to some other stats:

According to myyearinbooks.com, I'm a "decadent chocolate strawberry romantasy" aura person and I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but I do agree with the romantasy part 😂 Also, the book ranking is fairly accurate but the fifth place was almost a Space Janitor novel. In the end, I just couldn't not put a Hunger Games book on the list. It felt like a betrayal to Haymitch 😂

Now here are some graphs that took me ages to make because I'm not as competent with stats as Liliana 😂

I have to admit I expected a bit more mystery novels, but I do remember reading a lot of romantasy whenever I had a reading slump, so it checks out. The romance section is just contemporary romance novels while I put all the romantasy novels under fantasy. It was easier that way. Besides, the romantasies I read are usually heavier on the fantasy plot with a romantic subplot.

I do love a good series so this is not that shocking. The standalones are all the contemporary romances I read during summer 😄

Again, like I said already, my favorite page range is the 300-400 one. It's the perfect length - not too long, but long enough to have decent plot and character development. I only read 2 really short novellas this year, and I can't believe I had 21 books with more than 400 pages 😂 Congrats to me I guess lol

No 1-star ratings!! Then again, since I was feeling merciful, there were 12 2-star books 😅 I'm really satisfied with these numbers because I have A LOT of 4-star books. Those are the ones that are really close to being perfect but had maybe one issue or something that didn't fit the vibe.

Since I intentionally avoided newer releases because I wanted to read as many backlist books I could, these stats are pretty good. I kinda felt like I should read the older ones first and then grab a newer novel from time to time "like a reward" 😂😂 Idk if that makes sense, but I do know that if I let myself only read the latest releases, I'd never read all the books that have been patiently waiting on my TBR for ages.

The last area I will talk about is reading challenges!

The A to Z one was pretty easy to get through except for the X, Y and Z letter which I took some liberties with. For example, for X I took Killer Smile which is the first novel in the Stella Knox series. Finishing it was pretty satisfying and I'm glad to say I completed (almost) all of my other challenges as well!

You've already seen in my last update that I've finished the Motif and Rainbow one, but I completed the rest during December.

The ONLY challenge I didn't finish was the 25 in 2025. That's because this challenge doesn't have prompts, and it's very hard picking specific books at the beginning of the year to read after. Usually I have multiple options for prompts, but for this one, you literally have to read the books you picked. I did take some liberties and switched out some books after DNF-ing them but in the end I just gave up.

I won't be doing this in 2026 because as I explained above, it just seems...pointless? I'm gonna read even more than 25 books but I don't want to be limited to such a specific list.

All in all, I feel like 2025 has been a great year for me and I think 2026 could be even better for multiple reasons - some of my favorite series have gotten new sequels and I joined some fun new challenges instead of the ones I dropped 😍

How was your reading year? I'd love to see your stats!

  1. I'm so excited to see all these stats!!!

I also had my yearly goal at 60 and changed it, but I went down instead of up. So great how you still surpassed yours even though you increased the number.

My preferred length is also 300-400, otherwise it is either too simple or too long, and most of the books I read are series, so it is not like they leave things unexplained, there are always more books. Big books intimidate me, and I am surprised by all these long romances that are so popular now.

I think each time, I'll start including more and more backlisted books, but when I say backlisted, it is not from 2024, but way older, from before 2020.

You were very smart with the A to Z challenge, and I think that it is a good idea, because I am not going to read a book that starts with X just so I can complete the challenge.

The Rainbow challenge always looks very cute!

I get what you say about the 25 in 2025 challenge. For me it is easier because I am not limited by a prompt but also more difficult because I do not know what my mood will be. I love having different options for books but some prompts are too specific or difficult.

It seems like you had a wonderful reading year, and I cannot wait to see what 2026 brings!

    1. Thanks! I had a couple of reading slumps over the course of the year, but I somehow managed to get out and actually finish all the goals I set 😅

I know right?? Idk what it is about 450+ page romances because if you can't say what you want to say in 300 pages then maybe you don't need to say it 😂😂

Yeah, the A to Z one can be difficult. I spent years reading books I didn't love just for the sake of it and it ended poorly. I think this is better because the challenge doesn't seem so impossible when I know I can make some adjustments plus I don't have to trudge through a boring book just for the sake of it 😅

I'm also excited for this new reading year! I hope we both make the best of it! ♥

  2. Seeing so many stats is such a welcome sight! I love stats so much. Have you used Storygraph at all? They have a lot of amazing stats! Many that I see here and they do it every month too. I adore that aspect of it because I love seeing it all every month. You had a fabulous year and I hope 2026 is just as good or even better! (I had to fix a typo so deleted and resent)
