It’s Monday! What are You Reading? - 21.07.25

New week means new monday bookish meme hosted by  The Book Date.

Wow this was a major disappointment and actually a bit of a shocker when it comes to spicy scenes - I thought this was YA/NA?!?

Not to mention, there was no coherent plot, just some wandering around the desert and finding new people who are all mysterious and then never finding out what they are doing and why...

The whole "plot" was just Khalani being whiny and stupid and pining over Takeshi. Why was the whole "will they, won't they" thing happening again when they already had so many romantic moments together and basically ended up together in the last book? It was super annoying I gave it 2 stars...

After finishing Us Deadly Few, I rewatched Twisters and had been in the whole "country/cowboy romance" mood (if you've read my last post, you'll know what I'm talking about) and I wanted something sweet like Tyler and Kate or Nash and Libby from The Inheritance Games . It was difficult trying to find a non-spicy country romance novel, but I did end up finding this one. I wish I hadn't because I was so bored out of my mind, and today I DNF-ed it at the 30% mark. Then I started a different book in the same genre, which I DNF-ed even sooner, approximately at the 20% mark...I guess I'm really unlucky with this genre 😂

After being completely disappointed by the last 3 books I read, I needed to do a reset 😂 I chose this book as a palette cleanser because a) it's Lynette so it's bound to be good and b) it's neither of the genres I was considering switching to so it's gonna shock my mood 😂

What are you currently reading? What are you planning on reading next?

  1. Yikes, spicy scenes in a YA book is WILD. No thank you. Spicy scenes in NA I'll let slide if they're actually adults. But otherwise it feels icky. I'm sorry that book surprised you in such an unfortunate way. I hope your next reads treat you better!

If you're still in the mood for cowboy romance, there's one by Janette Rallison that I know of. As you know, I don't read a lot of romance, but this is the author that actually got me into it! Her romances are super cute and they're always really funny! AND while she writes both YA and adult book, all of her books are closed door romance, so zero spice. The book I'm thinking of is called The Cowboy and the Girl Next Door, and I will admit that I have not read it. But I generally like her books, and you already have My Fair Godmother on your TBR sooo 👀

    1. I agree, it should definitely be adult! Although I have partly myself to blame because I didn't notice that while the first book still definitely has the "ya/young-adult" tag if you open "all tags," the sequel doesn't...

But then again, when you finish book 1 and it doesn't have anything that requires an adult tag, there are only a few minor kissing scenes, you sort of expect the sequel to have the same amount 😂

Girlll thank you so much for the rec!! I haven't seen this book before but I immediately tracked it down and will give it a try! It sounds super cute and since I've heard nothing but postitive things about My Fair Godmother, this can't be bad either 😍
