2024 End of the Year Freak Out Tag

I know I should've done this in December but time is never on my side ðŸ˜‚

This tag was modified by Books, Bones & Buffy from the original Mid Year Freak Out Tag and I of course found it at Lili Lost in a Book 😂

Since I haven't done this tag in the first half of the year, I'll be changing the part "since July" and considering the books from the whole year.

Best Books I’ve Read in 2024

Each of these books was simply amazing. There are various genres on this list, but the common thread is that all of them had a great combo of excellent plot and loveable characters. Some of them also had other things I usually love - sassy banter, hate-to-love romance and mind-blowing plot twists.

Best Sequels I’ve Read in 2024

Defend the Dawn was equally amazing as the first and last book in the series. The Brothers Hawthorne only added to my love for The Inheritance Games boys ♥ Weapon was both a sequel and the final book in a duology that tied things up perfectly. Some Shall Break broke me ðŸ˜‚ I need the third book ASAP. Apprentice to the Villain in all of it's ridiculousness made me giggle just like the first book did. ðŸ˜‚ Vow of Thieves stole my heart. Pun intended. This duology had one of the best and realest romances ever.

New Releases I Haven’t Read But Want To:

I absolutely love Ally Carter and anything that has to do with The Inheritance Games so it's no wonder The Most Wonderful Crime and Games Untold are on this list. Besides those, I was really looking forward to Sky's End because we don't get much epic sci-fi adventures anymore! Full Speed is also a sci-fi novel written by an author I have read and loved before so I'm sad I didn't get to it earlier.

Biggest Disappointments:

I  refuse to spare any more words on Lightlark and How to Survive Your Murder. If you want to know more, you can look for my reviews somewhere on the blog but honestly, my point was that those 2 are trash and don't read them ðŸ˜‚ How To Date and Alex Approximately weren't that bad, but I was severely disappointed and gave both 2 stars.

Biggest Surprises:

Since I already read a series by J.A.Davis and didn't love it, (and these covers are a bit cringe ðŸ˜‚) I had low expectations but I fell in love with Cage of Deceit! Of course, reading historical novels is not a usual thing for me, so I was pleasantly surprised by Yours From the Tower. It ended up being one of the best books of the year! Edenbrooke is also a historical novel but it's sort of like a Pride and Prejudice retelling so I wasn't that surprised by loving it. But He's My Grumpy Neighbor sounds like a basic rom-com, but it turned out to be one of the coziest reads that features a great cast of characters and a healthy romance you can't help but root for!

Favorite New Authors:

I think the whole world knows about Assistant to the Villain by now ðŸ˜‚ It's got that specific genre of too ridiculous humor I love and an office romance between a villain and his assistant that is just...perfection ðŸ˜‚ In any case, I love Hannah's writing and will be following her closely, just like Alexis Patton who released one of the best dystopian novels in recent years. I'm sad this genre isn't as popular as before but I'm glad that we at least got this gorgeous prisoner-guard romance/ jail break novel.

Books That Made Me Cry:

Honestly, I don't remember the last time I cried while reading ðŸ˜… It's been a long, long time.

Books That Made Me Happy:

When thinking of books that made me happy, I usually mean cute books that were super light, hopeful and made me giggle ðŸ˜‚ All of the books above fit this criteria. They are romance novels that have an optimistic tone, green flag romances and super adorable moments.

Most Anticipated Books For The 1st Half Of 2025:

I already did a TTT on this topic so I'm gonna link it here, but the two I'm most excited about are of course, the None Shall Sleep finale and a Hunger Games prequel.

  1. Oh yay! I'm glad you decided to do this tag! It's a fun one! Hannah Nicole Maehrer's writing is SO fun! Even though I've only read two books by her in the same series, I feel like at this point I would read anything she writes. Lol.

    1. It was super fun, I have to steal tags from you more often 😂 omgosh I second that! That woman just knows exactly how to write something so utterly ridiculous but not cross the line into cringe 😂 Of course, her banter is on point as well ♥
