New week means new Monday bookish meme hosted by The Book Date.
After reading a bunch of winter rom-coms, it was time to switch to fantasy. While there were lots of promising parts to this story, in the end, I realized it didn't fully pull me in. There were lots of descriptions that I'd just skim over, the romance was fine, I guess (it only occurred in the third half, though), the magical creatures (and the whole world-building actually) were explained in the most boring way possible and by the end of the book I still didn't understand how this world functioned. More in my review!
Even though I'm just 20% in, I'm already having much more fun than reading Feathers of Snow 😂😂 The writing style is obviously meant to be "historical" as in the characters speak like they're in a Jane Austen novel and I find that simply delightful 😂 The banter between two main characters is adorable and their friendship is what amazes me the most. It's been a while since I read a romantasy novel where two characters spend a lot of time talking (or in this case, exchanging letters) and actually developing a strong friendship based on trust, which becomes a romantic relationship after a while. It's refreshing and cute (and a green flag!).
I've seen this one floating around as a unique, winter retelling type of book so I'm gonna give it a try!
