New week means new monday bookish meme hosted by The Book Date.
A decent murder mystery with morally grey characters at its centre that offers some nice plot twists, but it sort of didn't fulfill my expectations, and here's why -
"Robbie and Trevor Cresmont have a body count—the killer kind. Handsome and privileged, the Crestmont brothers have enough wealth to ensure they’ll never be found guilty of any wrongdoing."
These are the first two sentences of the official synopsis that made me think this book is gonna be about these two killer brothers, and yet, they weren't truly the core part of the story. At least not in my opinion. Of course, Lauren is the main character as she is the one who's trying to uncover all the secrets, but I fully expected the brothers to be heavily involved in everything and that didn't happen...
I'm not saying the plot was bad, it truly wasn't! I was genuinely surprised at the final reveal and found the book to have a nice pace. So why didn't I rate this higher? Well, besides me having different expectations, I have to say I disliked some of the MC's actions. On one hand, I can see why she's running into danger instead of avoiding it, but on the other hand, I wanted to strangle her for doing so many stupid things and not getting help from other people from the beginning 😅 A solid 3-star read for me!
I'm about 25% in and loving it. The main character is a murder mystery author who finds herself in the middle of, you guessed it, a murder mystery 😂 I absolutely love her relationships with her teenage daughter and all her sassy banter with the local detective. Hopefully, the rest of the book is amazing as well because I'd love to continue with this series!

I'm taking things slow and just going with the vibe so I don't end up in another reading slump 😂 Maybe I'll pick up the sequel to Buried in a Good Book or maybe I'll take something from my reading challenge TBR, who knows?
