──────✿ Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis ✿──────

Another case of "don't judge a book by its cover," this is a far more complex story than it seems. A princess that's secretly a vigilante at night must uncover a dangerous scheme and stop an enemy everyone thought was long gone.

──────✿ City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau ✿──────

This middle-grade dystopian novel that's also been made into a wonderful movie has everything you need - two capable kids looking for a way out of Ember, a postapocalyptic setting, and an ancient parchment that might hold the answers to everything if only it could be deciphered.

──────✿ A Crane Among Wolves by June Hur ✿──────

Historical fiction murder mystery set in the Joseon era. Two young people have to beat the evil king, solve the mystery, and save their people.

──────✿ Cinder by Marissa Meyer ✿──────

A sci-fi retelling of Cinderella that's on so many "best YA" lists. A cyborg girl and a prince have to do everything in their power to stop a deadly plague, uncover secrets of the past, and try to decide between duty and freedom.

──────✿ Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer ✿──────

Two teens caught up in their problems try to fix things, deal with their family issues, and in the meantime, fall in love.

──────✿ Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman ✿──────

Uniquely written book that talks about mental illness and the way it affects the person dealing with it and everyone else. It might be a bit confusing to read at times, but the topic it covers is important and in the end it's worth it just to see the main characters' journey.
