It’s Monday! What are You Reading? - 11.08.25

New week means new Monday bookish meme hosted by  The Book Date.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but I DNF-ed ANOTHER country romance book...wow...

I gave it so many chances, but omg how the main character annoyed me - she was selfish, immature, childish and generally being an obnoxious pick me girl. She just showed up at this guy's house and expected him to accept her with open arms and give her everything she needed because guess what - SHE DIDN'T PACK ANYTHING. She literally showed up in her wedding dress with a tiny bag, no other clothes/shoes, no plan, nothing. The guy barely has a cabin with one bed and ended up on the couch because lil miss obnoxious didn't wanna stay at an inn/hotel.

Maybe I'd accept this if they were BFFs NOW, but they literally haven't spoken to each other for like 8 years or something. They didn't even recognize each other when she showed up. Not to mention, she purposefully acted all dramatic to add to the rumors about him as a "prank." Honestly, if someone showed up in my small town and started acting this way, I'd send them right back to where they came from. Anyways, I don't wanna talk about this book anymore, I'm so glad I dropped it because the next thing I picked up has been AMAZING.

How can a book that's not even that sad, make me so emotional? First of all, I'm only about 55% in, but I can tell this book will stay with me. Second of all, it's so much more complex than what the cover and blurb tell me. It's got one of the best representations of mother-daughter relationships. Ever since her grandmother died, Eliza's mother was sort of in a daze and not fully herself. Eliza wants to help her mom so she asks for cooking lessons and those scenes are so far my favorite.

Eliza makes some reasonable conclusions and actually recognizes that she didn't put in enough effort to bond with her grandmother, as well as her mother. They chat about their family, nostalgia and how certain people stay with you forever. It's been lovely so far.

I'm also really glad to see that Eliza's relationship with the "annoying" Westley is a slow-burn and they are both too cute. They had some prejudices because they're wildly different, but after getting to know each other better they are slowly becoming friends 😍

My mood has been all over the place so I might pick this one up next because it's a) short b) sweet and c) I need it for a reading challenge 😂

What are you currently reading? What are you planning on reading next?
