New week means new monday bookish meme hosted by The Book Date.
This 593-page book could've, and SHOULD'VE been much shorter. While I appreciated the first two books for their simplicity and fun banter, I truly don't need the same dialogues repeated the third time. The whole "dagger to the throat" thing, will-they-won't-they, we should've been past that. The first 70% of the book could've been summed up easily because there were only a few major events, and the rest was filler content.
Now the last 30% was actually fun. There were some interesting plot twists, most of which I liked EXCEPT THAT LAST ONE. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but a character I really liked turned out to be something else entirely, and it ruined everything for me. It felt like a cheap cop out because the author already did the SAME THING with a different character a few chapters prior. But, it was convenient that this character also became something else, so the 2 main characters can get their HEA.
I'm not gonna say I didn't have fun, but looking at it overall, I can't give this book more than 3 stars...
The only reason I'm reading this book is because it's literally THE ONLY ONE I could find for that "one-day-book" reading challenge prompt. I tried finding other, more interesting (and preferably YA) books that have their plot spanning just one day, but I already read all the best ones 😭 I'm not saying this book will be bad, but I truly do not have any expectations whatsoever.
Since Fearless disappointed me, I have high hopes for this one to wow me like the first one did! Idk why, but dystopian enemies-to-lovers hit differently than fantasy ones 😤
