Critter Cafe, Trash Goblin and a co-op game!

Today I've got not one, but three games to tell you about! ✨😊

First up is a cutesy cafe management/adventure/puzzle platformer game that sounds like it's a game of my dreams but it doesn't fulfill my expectations 😂 I think it's because it tries to be all of the things I mentioned, but ends up not doing any of those things successfully. Here's the official synopsis:

Welcome to your Critter Café! Rescue and bond with adorable, fantasy critters in need of your help and build a new home together. Design and run your own café, care for your critters, uncover the secrets of mysterious portals, and create a wholesome café for all to enjoy!

While it seems amazing the moment you start it, it becomes painfully obvious after an hour that you're gonna repeat the same things over and over again until you get all the critters. The gameplay ends up being boring because there aren't any risks, nor anything exciting going on. Nothing changes no matter where you are in the game - you open the cafe, open a portal, find the critter, play with it so it gains XP and that's it.

Opening the cafe and serving the customers is so dull because there aren't any penalties and the only reward is getting XP so you can unlock these "find the critter" portals. Then you have to travel at a snail's pace to the portal which annoyed me to no end. The portal "puzzles" were actually fun to do, although some were too easy.

Moving on to character customization, it was okay. You get a few choices but I didn't mind it too much because all of the choices had multiple color variants, so you get a decent variety. There is one part that I loved - the cafe customization. Just like the clothes, you have multiple color variants for each furniture item and you can position them basically anywhere. I had a lot of fun coming up with themes for my cafe 😂

Next up is Trash Goblin! Now this game was much more fun, but unfortunately, my mood got the better of me, and I didn't get very far 😂

A wholesome, cosy shopkeeping game with no time pressure! Uncover & clean trinkets then upcycle them to sell to endless colourful & quirky customers. Spend your savings to upgrade your shop, buy better tools, plus expand and customise your space.

While the gameplay is fairly simplistic, lots of things can happen and the more you play, the more things you can unlock. For example, you start of with the basic tools and just do basic repairs/cleaning, when you progress a bit more, you can buy upgrades and even decorate your tiny house a bit. Later in the game, you can even leave your shop (which I never got to because my mood wasn't cooperating 😂)

The same thing about not having risks applies to this one as well, but Trash Goblin doesn't end up boring because you never know what the next in-game day will bring. Some crazy new customer, finding a shiny new item, getting cool new upgrades - it could be anything! So why did I stop playing? Well, I craved more action 😂 Trash Goblin was the last in a row of cozy, no-risk, slow-paced games, and I wanted to switch things up.

Had I played it more, my rating would've probably been higher. For now, I'm gonna leave it at 3.5 and maybe one day, I'll play the game again and up my rating 😉

Remember when I said I wanted more action? That's what I sort of got with the last co-op game I played with my sister 😏 It's this slightly dark, puzzle filled two player game that's available on multiple platforms.

Two detectives, one deadly experiment, a race against time. Each player only has one half of the puzzle. In this 2-player co-op puzzle game, you can survive the parallel experiment only by working together.

I'm gonna be honest and say that MULTIPLE times, we reached a block and didn't know what to do. Which is a good thing! I love it when puzzles are actually difficult and not just repetitive motions. Each puzzle was unique and required excellent communication and cooperation.

The artwork was detailed and reminded me of those old horror/thriller book covers. I don't even have any cons to mention. The story was fascinating and you could never guess what would happen next. It's sort of sci-fi and fantasy combined but very original nonetheless.

There are also some minigames you can play as much as you like and collectibles to find even after you're done with the main game. All in all, a game that took much longer than anticipated to finish, with amazing head-scratching puzzles and fun ways to annoy your partner 😂
